November 28th, 2007 LEAGUE LEADERS IN CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES

Tetris Tournament closed out 2007 in a big way. There was a first time champion with the heart of a stallion, a most-improved dark horse renegade with unimaginable skills, and plenty of nominees for best dressed. Thought the year couldn't get any crazier. THINK AGAIN!

VINNIE: 4

PAUL G: 4

LESLIE: 2

ERIC HICKS: 1

JESSE JOHNSON: 1

1st Place Champion - Jesse Johnson

Won his first ever Tetris Championship with a broad mix of speed, offense and poise. His road to the final round was a bumpy one, with tough wins over veterans Agent Wells, Jeffrey, a suddenly dangerous Lenny and last month's MIP Amy. Vinnie took him to the rubber match in the finals, but it was Johnson's love of the game that gave him the edge in the deciding match.

2nd Place - Vinnie

Vinnie dug himself a hole early when a shocking 35-34 loss to Lenny sent him to the loser's bracket in the fist round. Playing with his back to the wall, Vinnie went on a murder spree, taking down heavy hitters like Joe Lighting, Leslie, Paul G. and even Lenny in a much-hyped rematch. Johnson took him 2-1 in the finals, but Vinnie showed that he's a player you never count out.

3rd Place - Amy

Last month's Most Improved Player proved that September wasn't a flook with an astonishingly gifted performance: in her biggest match of the night, Amy took out Paul G. 16-11 to send last month's champ to the loser's bracket. Vinnie beat her 27-16 on the doorstep of the finals, but watch for her next month to carry the momentum even further.

4th Place - Paul G.

Last month's champ burst out of a self-imposed retirement in an attempt to surpass Vinnie as the most winningest player in Tetris. The results were mixed: he managed a big win against Jeffrey in the final 8, but losses to Amy and Vinnie kept him out of the final three. Any other player would be happy with this performance, but Paul G. is no other player.

5th Place - Lenny

This month's Most Improved Player came out of nowhere with some big upsets and playoff-caliber performances. He shocked the world with his first round upset over Vinnie, and held his own with impressive wins over veterans Joe Lighting and Dewey Decimator. Vinnie took him out in a barn-burning rematch, but nevertheless: Lenny is a true contender with plenty of wins in his future.

6th Place - Cassandra

This month's Rookie of the Month raised some eyebrows with a stellar debut. Cassandra managed wins over monsters like former champ Leslie and perennial all-star Melanie, but couldn't hang with Paul G. in the closing matches. This player has tremendous upside, but can she put in all together in 2008?

7th Place - Leslie

Leslie continued her consistently powerful game-play in November, but it wasn't enough to give her a much-sought-after 3rd championship title. She was able to smoke Dan. J and Agent Wells in the loser's bracket, but a showdown with her arch nemesis Vinnie sent her packing.

8th Place - Jeffrey

This savvy veteran managed to squeak into the final 8 with some bold victories over Luke and Melanie. However, Paul G's barrage of Tetris skill was too much for Jeffrey, and he'll have to wait until '08 for another stab at the brackets.

Rookie of the Month - Cassandra

In her breathtaking debut, Cassandra showed all the traits of a franchise player: high scoring, low errors and methodical game play. One can only imagine what 2008 will hold for this gem.

Best Dressed - Vanessa

First time player Vanessa wowed the audience with a mix of class, style and in-your-face fashion. She also recieved twice as many votes as any other player. Hot!

Most Improved Player - Lenny

His wins over Vinnie and Joe Lightning say it all. Lenny is player that Tetris was made for: poised, calm and under the radar. As ESPN.com writer Steven A. Smith puts it: "The Tetris screen is Lenny's canvas - all we can do is sit back and watch him paint his masterpiece." Yes!

1. Vinnie

You can't argue with his history. The most bankable player in the game.

BEAT: Casey, Andrea, Jaberwalky, Joe Lightning, Leslie Volkar, Lenny, Paul G. Amy, Jesse. LOST TO: Lenny, Jesse Johnson.
2. Paul G.

November showed some of his weaknesses, but his resume speaks for itself.

BEAT: Ruth, Jaberwalky, Jeffrey, Cassandra. LOST TO: Amy, Vinnie
3. Jesse Johnson

One championship does not a hero make..... or something.

BEAT: Skullcrusher, Jeffrey, Agent Wells, Amy, Lenny, Vinnie. LOST TO: Vinnie.
4. Amy

The number one female in Tetris. Plays like every game is the playoffs.

BEAT: Andrea, Paul G, Cassandra. LOST TO: Jesse Johnson, Vinnie.
5. Leslie Volkar

The number two female in Tetris. Still looking for championship number three.

BEAT: Zach, Dan J, Agent Wells. LOST TO: Cassandra, Vinnie.
6. Lenny

An amazing player to watch. Holds his own in a forest of Tetris giants.

BEAT: Vinnie, Dewey Decimator, Joe Lightining. LOST TO: Jesse, Vinnie.
7. Jeffrey

A long time player who has yet to realize his full potential.

BEAT: Luke, Cassinator, Melanie. LOST TO: Jesse, Paul G.
8. Joe Lightning

What happend Joe? This long time great has shown weakness in the last couple of months. Can he rebound in 2008?

BEAT: James the Bartender, Donkey Balls. LOST TO: Lenny, Vinnie.
9. Cassandra

A powerful rookie who hates losing more than Mario hates Goombas.

BEAT: Billy, Leslie Volkar, Melanie. LOST TO: Amy, Paul G.
10. Agent Wells

Like Joe Lightning, she saw her game fall off in the last months of 2007. But as Sports Illustrated columnist Jack McCallum writes, "2008 will be Agent Wells' year."

BEAT: John, Sausage Mahoney. LOST TO: Jesse, Leslie Volkar.
11. Dewey Decimator

Last month's Best Dressed converted that momentum into a steller November showing.

BEAT: Josh. LOST TO: Lenny, Ruth.
12. Jaberwalky

Needs to put a few more wins together to be a true competitor, but a fan favorite nevertheless.

BEAT: Cassinator, Billy. LOST TO: Paul G., Vinnie.
